In my previous blog, I discussed the scientific consensus of anthropogenic (man made) global warming or AGW for short. In this blog I’m going to show you how to prove to yourself that we have been in a decade of global cooling. Am I going to cite some cherry picked studies to make my point? No. I’m going to show you how to access NOAA’s climate database query tools, run the queries yourself, and see the truth from the most reliable source there is.
The NOAA climate database is one of the highest regarded and most cited databases used by climatologists in climate research. It is the “gold” standard. Talk is cheap and statistics can be made up (as many AGW alarmists do). What doesn’t lie is the raw data, which many choose to ignore in favor of the AGW propaganda. In other words, if the facts don’t fit, make something up or simply ignore them. But I want you to look at the unadulterated facts and decide for yourself.
First, lets jump onto the NOAA Satellite and Information Service database (NESDIS) by clicking here. The page will open up in a separate window.
You will notice on NOAA’s query page there is a blue box in the middle of the page with a number of fields that need to be filled in. We want to look at the temperature trends across the last 10 years. Select the following values to produce the query:
Data Type: “Mean Temperature”
Period: “Annual”
Location: “United States”
Output Type: Select “Line Chart” and “Plot Trend Line”
First Year to Display: Select “1998”
Last Year to Display: Select “2009”
Base Period - BegYr: Select “1998”
Base Period - EndYr: Select “2009”
Sort By: Select “Year”
Finally, just below the blue box is a blue oval button labeled “Submit.” Click on it. The NOAA tool will plot the temperature extents, baseline, and trend for the 10 year period and present it in a graph form.
Look at the green line (the trend line). If your vision is as acute as mine, you’ll notice the average annual temperature trend over the past 10 years has been downward at a rate of -0.77 deg F for the decade! Note that 2009 is not actually presented in the graph because the year is incomplete. If temperatures in 2009 continue as they have, the trend towards a cooler climate will be even more pronounced.
There is a hot (no pun intended) debate between the AGW alarmists and skeptics regarding the fact that 2008 and 2009 are documented to be two of the colder ranking years since satellite based measurements in 1982. The AGW alarmist will insist that you can’t look at just one year and say the planet is cooling. They say you have to look at the decadal trends. Okay, we looked at the most recent decadal trend - the one we’re living in right now - the one that alarmists say has seen unprecedented global warming. What amazes me is they say it with straight faces!
Here is a screenshot of the graph you should have received if you entered the above query correctly:
